I remember, as a young kid how popular the movie A Nightmare On Elm Street was. People were not overstimulated with Horror like they are today. Grown adults were genuinely terrified of Freddy Krueger, who was the supernatural horror villain in the film.
He was a novel character with not much to compare him to. Most of the horror characters around that time, Michael Myers from Halloween, you could simply run from and lockout of your house. This was not the case with Freddy Krueger, as he would come for you in your sleep. The only way to escape was to not fall asleep.
I was a young kid at the time and for obvious reasons was not allowed to watch it. Although, I remember seeing the trailer on TV and being affected by it. As a young kid, I remember thinking he was real and adults talking about how it gave them nightmares. Spooky stuff!!!
